AFS at the 2011 Donald W. Reynolds Arkansas Governor’s Cup

The AFS management team with awards from the 2011 Donald W. Reynolds Arkansas Governor's Cup

Last Wednesday (4/20), the Agricultural Food Systems team (JD Andrade, Kirk Dennison, Lauren Kessler-Morriss, and myself) from John Brown University traveled down to Little Rock with the other two JBU teams, GardenCraft and Craftistas, for the 11th annual Donald W. Reynolds Arkansas Governor’s Cup awards luncheon. The Governor’s Cup is a business plan competition for undergraduate and graduate students in the state of Arkansas sponsored by the Arkansas Economic Acceleration Foundation. Fifty undergraduate teams from colleges and universities all over Arkansas submitted plans for this year’s competition, of which twelve made it into the semi-finals and six made the finals.

Two weeks prior to the awards luncheon my team and I had gone to Little Rock to present our business plan for Agricultural Food Systems a total of four times: once for the semi-finals of the undergraduate division, once for the agricultural and innovation divisions, and once for the final six.

At the awards luncheon, Agricultural Food Systems won all four awards in the undergraduate division: Elevator Pitch, Innovation, Agriculture, and First Place Undergraduate. Craftistas and GardenCraft placed Second and Third in the undergraduate division respectively, giving John Brown University the clean sweep in the undergraduate division! Both AFS and Craftistas will be traveling to Las Vegas May 24-26 to represent the state of Arkansas and John Brown University in the Donald W. Reynold’s Tri-State Competition.

Needless to say, this was a great day for John Brown University Business! I am so humbled and proud to be a part of such a great school as well as business plan team. I’ll be writing another post regarding my experience at John Brown University, so be on the look out for that.
